The Grade 3s and 4s recently had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience learning about animal adaptations in the school’s biology lab. As part of their Sharing the Planet unit of inquiry, they eagerly took part in an experiment demonstrating the effect of huddling in penguins.
With the help of Grade 11 CAS students, the Grade 3s and 4s took regular temperature readings from two sources: a single test tube and a bundle of seven test tubes, both filled with hot water. Over time, it became clear that the single test tube cooled down much faster than the bundled test tubes, effectively illustrating how penguins stay warm in the harsh Antarctic cold.
It was an incredible experience, and the students were thrilled to participate. A big thank you to Ms. Doran for organizing and to the Grade 11s for their support!
