On Tuesday, 5th November, all middle school students had the exciting opportunity to hear the Chamber Orchestra of Lyon perform excerpts from blockbuster films such as E.T., Batman, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, and Star Wars. The pedagogical concert was a whirlwind tour showcasing the role and evolution of music in films—from original movie soundtracks by legendary composers like John Williams and Hans Zimmer to ‘borrowed’ music by classical greats such as Mozart and Wagner.
The performance left students in awe, perfectly setting the stage for our new unit on film music. As Pietro in Grade 6 remarked, “It doesn’t sound real, it’s so good.”
