Although it is not considered very ‘authentic performance practice’, Grade 8 students were being true inquirers when they discovered they could play their recorders quite successfully by exhaling air through their noses! Articulation and playing fast passages might pose some difficulty, as would a runny or stuffy nose, but they have assured their music teacher that they will clean their instruments thoroughly in warm soapy water!
