Some of the Grade 11s and 12s recently went on a trip to Madrid and the Gredos mountain range.
The trip began with everyone meeting at Lyon airport at 04h45 for their flight. Once they landed in Madrid they got dropped off at Real Madrid Santiago Bernabeu stadium, where some students did the Real Madrid tour. Next they did some sightseeing in Madrid, including Palacio Real, Plaza Mayor and Mercado de San Miguel. Then on to the UNESCO heritage settlement of Ávila.
Afterwards they went to the fieldwork centre – Gredos Centre, which is in the Sierra de Gredos mountain range, just over 2 hours from Madrid. The students collected data on footpath erosion and the impact of tourism and created ephemeral art.
The next day they collected data comparing the impact of tourism in 2 small rural villages in the Gredos area. They had an archery competition and participated in a clean-up operation in the Gredos National Park.
Well done to everyone involved. It was a pleasure being there with you and the Gredos centre staff were full of praise for all of you as well. It hopefully created many special memories for you, and you now have excellent data for the IB internal assessment work.
