This amazing bee orchid (Ophrys apifera) is growing in the school flower bed! We don’t think that anyone planted it, so it’s just grown of its own accord. It’s growing not far from the main entrance, in a protected, fenced-off part of our gardens. If you spot it, please look at it but don’t touch it, because it is fragile.
Mr Nash thinks the bottom part of the flower looks like a Pokemon! However, it has really evolved to look like a bee, because this encourages real bees to visit it and pollentate it.
What do you think? Bee? Pokemon? Something else?
Please remember – respect this special wild plant and don’t touch it.
