Between the 13th and the 17th of March, the whole of ISL celebrated Book Week. And although every week at ISL could be considered a book week, this was a special occasion for everyone at ISL and we had so much reading fun everywhere in school.
This year our theme was Words from other worlds, which meant lots of activities inspired by fantasy, science fiction and dystopias that have been enchanting readers for a very long time.
Reading was the main character every day, of course. The Book Week was launched by Mr. Johnson who read a favourite childhood story to all Primary students. We had a daily Drop Everything And Read (DEAR time) that sent the school into a magical silence that captivated readers young and less young. On Wednesday, ISL was invaded by superheroes and characters from several books, movies and even TV shows for our very own ISL Comic Con.
In the Library, students had lots of book fun last week, from book tastings to book bingos and treasure hunts. All of that excitement was carried on in the classrooms, with special Book-Week activities, like book making, story creation and book swaps.
Book Week is one of the most beloved celebrations at ISL. We firmly agree with J K Rowling, who says “something magical can happen when you read a good book”. We hope that this magic creates a lifelong love of reading for all ISL students. You can see examples of some of that magic below!
