Grade 8 did an online interview with Professor James H. Johnson from Boston University regarding the wearing of Renaissance masks. Below is a report about theinterview, written by Grade 8 student Kasia.
Professor James H. Johnson works at Boston University and is a cultural historian. He writes and teaches about early Europe, specialising in the history of Venice. He started learning about Venice after he found out about the masks they wore. However, what captivated him most about it was that, even though sometimes they wore festive masks, they mainly wore plain masks, and they wore them for 6-8 months a year. He wanted to find out why this trend started, and so did we. Eighth grade interviewed him on Friday 15 October 2021.
